Graphics Team Member (Dec. 2018 – June 30, 2019)
Contract assignment at Rush Enterprises.
I held a temporary position within the Rush corporate marketing department in New Braunfels, Texas. It was only supposed to be for two months, but we hit it off and they kept me as long as they could. I helped design flyers, posters, business cards, invitations, and E-newsletters.

Graphics Team Member (2005 – 2016)
Worked for 11 years as a Graphic Designer at Schlitterbahn Waterparks Corporate officesI was a member of a very small, but extremely talented team of designers in the marketing department. We were responsible for the marketing and branding material for 6 waterpark locations, 3 resorts, plus the graphic design needs of the corporate office. The design team also helped brand and theme rides, create taglines, design costume characters, and direct photo shoots among many other things.

Freelancer (2004 – 2006)
Freelanced for two years. During that time, I helped a Central Texas business with marketing materials like books, pamphlets, and a video that I co-created.

Art Director (1999 – 2004)
Art Director of a web design company in San Marcos, Texas. We helped everyone from Realtors and Doctors to Olympic Gold Medal Winners and Christian recording artists. I designed websites, logos, business cards, T-shirts, and brochures.

Southwest Texas State University (1994 – 1998)
Studied studio art and graphic design in college. Blending these disciplines gave me more skills to draw upon in my career. I started out as a Communication Design major, but I enjoyed more tactile work like drawing, painting, and metalsmithing. After a few semesters, I floated over to the Art Department and switched majors, but I never gave up on my goal of working as a Graphic Designer. (Southwest Texas State is now Texas State University)

I grew up on a small farm in South Texas. During the summer, I helped my dad cut, bail, and load hay. I drove a tractor, stretched barbed wire fences; fed the horses, rabbits, and chickens; gathered eggs, and milked a cow twice a day. My siblings and I did these chores rain, sleet or shine. The farm and our parents taught me a thing or two about responsibility and doing a job right. I carried that experience and those values with me to college and into my career.

My faith also shaped me as a person and has taught me to be a servant to others. I started using my creative talents in 9th grade to help my family, my church, and my school. I created book covers for Christmas programs and proms. I designed posters for red ribbon week and UIL events. And I painted life-size nativity scenes and signs for my family’s businesses. I even won first place in a national commercial writing contest for Tide Detergent. I did most of this work for free because I loved using my gift to serve others. At the center of my passion to serve is Jesus Christ. He is my source of power and I can do all things through Him. So can you.

I follow theses series of steps to ensure that I deliver exactly what you need.

Phase 1

  • During your free consultation, I get an overview of what you’re looking for.
  • I  talk with you in follow up meetings or through Questionnaires in order to get to know you, your brands, your audience, your competitors and your goals.
  • I’ll put together a Creative Brief using the answers you provided in the Questionnaire. We’ll use the brief as a guiding document and will refer back to it throughout the project.

Phase 2

  • I brainstorm. Depending on what I’m working on, I may sketch ideas and share the black and white drawings with you in a meeting. We’ll then discuss whether or not I’m headed in the right direction and adjust course if necessary.
  • Next, I will use the selected drawing(s) as a basis for the design I create on my computer. This phase of the design will be in black and white. Once I have a few variations ready, I’ll present the black and white graphics to you for your opinion. I will show you color options only after you’ve seen the black and white versions and have had time to think about which one you prefer.

Phase 3

  • After you’ve selected a design option, we will tweak its color pallet. Then I’ll present you with multiple color options to choose from.
  • When you have picked the version of the graphic you love, we’re well on our way to completion. I may have a little more work to do before finishing the job. If it’s a logo, I will create a couple of variations for use in different layouts.
  • Once I receive final approval, we’ll do the ‘Design Approval Dance’, which is a lot like the ‘Dance of  Joy’ from that 80s show Perfect Strangers.

FAQ

Can I hire you on retainer?
If we click, sure! We’ll have to discuss your project and your ideas in a couple of meetings in person, over the phone or via Skype. This will help us gauge if we’re a good fit.

What do you charge per hour?
The price of each job varies.  I bid each project with my fees in mind, but I also have to determine certain factors like the turn-around-time and scope of work. It depends on what’s involved. Drop me a line so we can chat about what you need and what your budget is.

What is Branding Identity?
Brand Identity (AKA Brand ID) is everything that presents an ideal image to your audience. From your values to your look and feel… your logo, business cards, letterhead, packaging, ads, website, social media graphics, and uniforms, are all apart of Brand Identity.

Can you recreate my logo in vector?
Possibly. I’ll have to see the original first. If you need me to create something custom as well, like a business card or web graphics, I can. Email me and we can discuss.

Someone else designed my logo, can you alter it for me?
It depends on the reason. Get in touch with me so we can talk about the specifics.

What’s included with my custom logo?

1. A black and white and color version of your logo
2. The logo in these formats: AI, PDF, JPG, EPS, PNG.
3. Any specific sizes requested.
4. A link to where you can buy the font(s).
5. Request a different size in the future and I’ll make the change free.
6. A design guide that includes the logo’s fonts and the RGB, CMYK or Pantone colors.

How long does it take to create a custom logo?
Usually it takes two weeks to research and explore logo ideas. After that, it depends on the speed of communication and if sketches are needed. See my design process (in the About Me section just above) for more information.

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
I’m inclined to agree with Mr. Owl.

Yes. I can also find someone to print it for you.

I need a restaurant menu. Is that something you can design?
Yep. While working for Schlitterbahn, I helped design menus and menu boards for “The Bahn’s” many themed food locations and gourmet restaurants. I also created restaurant ads, signage, and posters. Send me an email. Let’s chat about your project and what I can do for you.

Do you design emails or e-newsletters?
I can help create a look and feel and customize templates in applications like MailChimp. I can also create graphics, like email footers for traditional emails. I am not a coder but know a pro who could assist you if you need something more complex. We’ve worked together many times. Drop me a line to talk about your project.

Do you work with video?
It depends on what you need. Contact me so we can chat in more detail.

I need design work for television, can you help me with that?
Sorry, that’s not my area of expertise. But I may know some folks who can help you.

I need social media graphics. Is that something you do?
Sure. Shoot me an email and tell me about your project.

I need help with a WordPress site. Can you help?

• I can help select and install WordPress themes and plugins.

• I can help customize the look and feel, create graphics like banners and icons, and input copy. But I’m not a coder. I can’t build themes or alter code.

• I can help brainstorm, paste your content into pages, and make sure the copy looks nice. I am not a copywriter, but I can point you to pros.

I need a photographer. Can you help?
I’m not a professional photographer. But I know several I can refer you to, including a good friend who took all the photos on this website.

What is the meaning of life?
According to author Douglas Adams, it’s “42” (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy).
